Refund and cancellation policy
Last updated 13 August 2026
Donations to the trust are generally not refundable once applied to our charitable work. This page sets out the specific circumstances in which we do refund a contribution, how to request one, and how long it takes.
General principle
Donations to Sri Gurudeva Seva Samsthe are voluntary charitable contributions. Once a donation has been received and applied to the trust's charitable work, it is generally not refundable.
We recognise, however, that genuine mistakes happen — a duplicate charge, a mistyped amount, or a payment that was debited without the donation completing. This policy sets out the situations in which the trust will refund a contribution, and how to ask for one.
When we will issue a refund
The trust will refund a contribution where:
- The transaction was duplicated. The same amount was charged more than once for a single intended donation. We refund the excess.
- An amount was debited but the donation did not complete. Where the payment failed or was not confirmed but your account was debited, the amount is refunded in full. In many such cases the payment processor reverses the charge automatically within a few working days.
- The amount was entered in error. Where a clear data-entry mistake was made — for example ₹50,000 instead of ₹5,000 — and you notify us within seven days, we refund the difference or the full amount.
- The transaction was unauthorised. Where a payment was made without the account holder's authority and this is established, the amount is refunded in full.
- A seva could not be performed. Where the trust is unable to perform a booked seva on the agreed date and no alternative date is acceptable to you, the amount paid is refunded in full.
When we will not issue a refund
The trust will not normally refund a contribution where:
- the donation was made intentionally and correctly, and the donor has simply changed their mind after the funds have been applied;
- the request is made more than thirty days after the donation, except in the case of an unauthorised transaction;
- an 80G tax exemption certificate has already been issued and the donation claimed, since the certificate would then have to be withdrawn and reported;
- a booked seva was performed as agreed but the donor did not attend.
Cancelling a seva booking or recurring donation
Seva bookings. A booking may be cancelled by contacting the office at least 48 hours before the booked date, and the amount paid is refunded in full. Cancellations within 48 hours cannot normally be refunded, as arrangements and provisions will already have been made — but do contact us, as we can usually move the booking to another date instead.
Recurring donations. A monthly donation may be stopped at any time, with no charge for stopping. Write to us at samadhan@maunatapasvi.com or call the office, and the mandate is cancelled before the next scheduled debit. Instalments already collected before cancellation are not refunded, since they have already been applied to the trust's work.
Registering for a shibira, course or programme
A registration fee secures a named place at a programme with a limited number of them. Once your place is confirmed, the fee is not refundable — the place has been held for you and somebody else has been turned away from it, and food, lodging and arrangements are committed on the strength of the numbers registered.
This is stated on the registration form before any payment is made, so it is known rather than discovered. Where a payment was taken but no place was confirmed — a duplicate charge, a debit against a registration that did not complete, or a programme the trust itself cancels or postpones — the amount is refunded in full under the same terms as any other contribution above.
If your circumstances change, please still contact the office. We cannot promise a refund, but we can often move a registration to a later programme.
How to request a refund
Write to samadhan@maunatapasvi.com or call the office on 9759 03 9759, and include:
- the name and phone number used when donating;
- the date and amount of the transaction;
- the transaction or order reference from your receipt or bank statement;
- a brief description of what went wrong.
We acknowledge every request within two working days and tell you our decision within seven working days of receiving the information above.
How long a refund takes
Approved refunds are initiated within 3 working days of approval and are always returned to the original payment method — the same card, UPI handle or bank account used to donate. We cannot refund to a different account.
Once initiated, the amount typically reaches you within 5 to 10 working days, depending on your bank or card issuer. This last step is controlled by your bank, not by the trust or its payment processor. If more than 10 working days have passed since we confirmed a refund was initiated, contact us with the reference we gave you and we will follow it up with the processor.
Refunds are made in Indian Rupees for the amount originally received. Any charge levied by your own bank or card issuer is outside the trust's control.
